Pixel Piracy is an indie side-scrolling real-time strategy video game with roguelike elements. It was developed by Quadro Delta and aided by Re-Logic of Terraria fame. While the game has potential to be great, it is plagued with bugs and shoddy AI that prevents it from reaching its full potential.
Combat is the primary focus of the gameplay in Pixel Piracy. The game draws inspiration from FTL: Faster Than Light, a masterful RTS/roguelike combination. However, where FTL carefully balances the strategic elements of combat to create a tense and compelling experience, Pixel Piracy's combat is boring and monotonous.
This is mostly due to the lack of complexity in the combat system. The enemy ships in Pixel Piracy are a bit larger than the player's ship, and they can fire more cannons at one time. In addition, enemies can also ram the player's ship, which causes damage to the crew. The game offers multiple types of combat, each with different goals, such as earning gold or leveling up the crew.
